The Town Clerk will be pre-election testing the electronic ballot counting device and ballots for the September 14, 2010 Primary in the Wheelwright Room of the Town Office on Thursday, September 2, 2010 beginning at 10:00AM per NH RSA 656:42(e). STATE PRIMARY ELECTION to be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at the Town Hall from 7:00AM-8:00PM.  Click here to view the sample ballot.
 
The Supervisors of the Checklist will be in session at the Exeter Town Clerk's Office to accept voter registrations, make corrections and/or additions prior to the September 14, 2010 State Primary Election on: Tuesday, September 7, 2010 from 7:00PM-8:00PM. This is the last day prior to the Election for additions or corrections to be made to the voter checklist.
If registering to vote, residents must provide photo ID and proof of residency, as well as naturalization papers if applicable.  Residents may also register to vote and/or make corrections at the Town Clerk's Office during regular window hours of Monday thru Friday, 8:30AM - 3:30PM.

Absentee ballots for the September 14, 2010 State Primary Election are available at the Town Clerk's Office during regular window hours (M-F 8:30AM-3:30PM) or by mail.
A person must meet the State criteria to obtain an absentee ballot and vote by mail: Must be registered to vote in Exeter, will be absent from Town on Voting Day, unable to come to polls due to physical disability, or a religious observance, or an employment obligation requiring physical presence at work.
Absentee ballots will only be given to, and received from, the person applying for the ballot and only to persons who meet one of the above criteria. Requests must include your signature, Exeter address, and a mailing address if different from home address.  Political affiliation must be stated to receive ballot of choice (Democrat or Republican).
Written requests for the ballot can be mailed to the Exeter Town Clerk, 10 Front Street, Exeter, NH 03833, or applied for in person at the Town Clerk's Office.
Completed ballots returned in person must be received at the Town Clerk's Office no later than 5:00PM, September 13, 2010, or received by mail on September 14, 2010.

The Town Clerk's Office provides assistance to members of the public with motor vehicle registration, vital records information and forms, marriage licenses, dog registration and voter registration.  The Town Clerk is the keeper of the records of the Town.  It is the headquarters for elections in the Town.  Most of the duties of the Town Clerk are regulated by State and/or Federal laws, and Town Ordinances.  Town Clerk window hours are MONDAY THRU FRIDAY 8:30AM - 3:30PM. Voter Registration
You may register to vote at the Town Clerk's office during regular window hours of Monday thru Friday 8:30AM-3:30PM. Please bring a photo ID and proof of residency (mortgage/lease agreement, utility bill (ie:  Comcast, Verizon, Unitil, gas bill etc.)  For more information call the Town Clerk at 778-0591.

             Vehicle Registration

Vehicle registrations are processed at the Town Clerk's office.

Renewable annually in the month of the owner's birth, unless you have a leased vehicle.

New residents MUST provide proof of residency in the Town of Exeter such as to show your lease, deed, utility bill or rent receipt.

Effective January 1, 2010 any 1995 or OLDER vehicle registered on or after January 1, 2010 will require in ADDITION to the bill of sale ONE Of the following documents:

Previously issued NH Registration, valid out of state title, or Verification of VIN (Form 19A). Form 19A is available at the Town Clerk's Office or DMV. The form 19A must be verified by a NH Law Enforcement Officer OR an authorized NH Licensed Auto Dealer OR an authorized NH Inspection Station.

Vehicle Registration Fees and Information

Town Permit fee based on manufacturer's suggested retail price when vehicle is new (per Maclean Hunter Market Reports).
Town Fee is pro-rated to owner's birth month and year of vehicle.
State permit fee based on gross vehicle weight (vehicle plus allowed passengers).

Certificate of Title

Preparation of NH Title, done at Town Clerk's office - $25 payable to the State of NH Title Bureau on vehicles.
If Title is held by a lienholder, registrant MUST provide complete mailing address of lienholder.  The State of NH Title Bureau requires all owners to sign a title application, or must provide a notarized Power of Attorney form for the signature of the owner, if unable to appear in person.  This form must be presented with the title at the time of application.

Vehicle License Plates

Regular passenger plates, motorcycle plates, trailer plates, moose plates, farm plates, agriculture plates & tractor plates are avaiable at the Town Clerk's Office. You may ORDER vanity plates at the Town Clerk's Office. Handicap plates and other types of plates are available at the State of NH Dept. of Motor Vehicles.

Vehicle Inspections

New registration: Inspection due within 10 days of registering vehicle.
Renewal registration: Inspection due by the 10th day of the following month.

Go WEST on Route 101 to Route 125 North DMV Office is on the RIGHT after "PLATE" sign. Building is also the office of NH State Police Troop A.

Boat Registrations
